Jordan's Principle
Learn about the Inuvik Native Band's commitment to Jordan's Principle, ensuring all our children receive the care they need, when they need it, with respect to culture, heritage, and community. At the Inuvik Native Band, we are deeply committed to upholding Jordan's Principle. Our priority is to ensure that all children in our community receive the care they need, precisely when they need it. We firmly believe in providing this care with utmost respect for culture, heritage, and community.
Jordan's Principle serves as a guiding principle for us. It is a child-first initiative that ensures equitable access to government-funded services for all First Nations children. This principle was named in memory of Jordan River Anderson, a young boy from Norway House Cree Nation, whose life was cut short due to jurisdictional disputes over his care.
Through our unwavering commitment to Jordan's Principle, we strive to eliminate any barriers that may hinder our children from receiving the care they deserve. Our initiatives focus on providing comprehensive and culturally-rich services that cater to the unique needs of each child and their family.
We work closely with our community members, healthcare professionals, and government agencies to ensure seamless coordination of care. By fostering partnerships and collaboration, we aim to create a supportive environment where our children can thrive, grow, and maintain a strong connection to their culture and heritage.
